APEMO describes itself as a movement of ordinary citizens promoting active citizenry and a 'liberal, progressive and social democracy' with equal opportunities while addressing past injustices. It is a 2021 breakaway from the National Freedom Party built around service delivery in rural northern KwaZulu-Natal.

In the 2021 local elections APEMO won 9 council seats across 4 municipalities, mostly in KwaZulu-Natal (8) and Mpumalanga (1). It holds the mayor's office in Okhahlamba today.

KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga in the baseline describe earlier representation, not confirmed November 2026 coverage. The party site remains available but includes unrelated casino spam and older branch activity. The 17 August 2026 report https://timesofugu.co.za/2026/08/17/sole-apemo-councillor-jump-the-ship/ says uMzumbe councillor Mzayifani Ngcobo will contest ward 8 for the IFP; it does not establish APEMO's overall ballot status. The original SABC News URL for the 29 April 2024 story returned no fetch results; the complete same-date SABC Elections copy was located and opened. All three retained scores now cite that working copy, without changing their 2024 dates. No newer equivalent was found, so all are stale_confirmed. Q7 concerns national electricity generation, not expressly municipal solar purchases. Q10 concerns national entry screening, not municipal eligibility checks.
